There’s a really nice site called Help a Reporter Out (HARO) which will send you emails each day of media opportunities.
You can use this resource to get mentioned in magazines, newspapers, websites, TV, radio, podcasts, etc.
The problem is unless you are on their paid plan the site will send you multiple emails a day and you’ll need to read through each one to see if there is a relevant media opportunity you want to pursue.
In this training, I’ll share with you how you can use Help a Reporter Out (HARO) and set up simple Gmail filters so you can only be alerted of opportunities that are a good fit.
Then you’ll want to use Jarvis.ai to help you answer their questions. Yesterday, I used this exact process to send a 1,200-word article to a journalist in minutes.
- Create a Free Help a Reporter Out (HARO) account (use a Gmail email if following along with video)
- Create Gmail filters for your market and apply them to emails from helpareporter.com
- Reply to the emails and use Jarvis.ai to help you answer their questions.
Follow along with this video to learn how:
Hey, it’s Reed Floren here. And if you’re looking for a way to get free publicity, I have a treat for you. It’s called help a reporter out or herro. And you can access this at help a reporter calm. Now what’ll happen is you’re going to sign up for their email lists. And they send out multiple email alerts a day, notifying you of different journalists that are looking for people to either interview, or submit information for them to cover in their blogs, magazines, podcasts, radio shows, TV shows, unit make newspapers, all sorts of things are covered by journalists that are members of hero. And this is a great way for you to get free exposure in the media, by just helping them out and being a source. And this is a free thing for you to sign up for. So you should go to help a reporter comm and sign up.
Now, what will happen is you’ll get multiple email alerts today, notifying you of hundreds of different opportunities. So how do you filter this and make sure that you only see the opportunities that are a good fit for you? Well, I’m glad you asked. So we’re going to go into Gmail. And we’re going to create a filter. So I have the top here, you have this little arrow, and I’m going to click on that. And I’m going to go from help a reporter calm. Okay, just so we can see that that is working. Good. That’s working. And we’re gonna edit this filter. So let’s pretend that we’re in the town out decluttering market. So we’re going to type in the cluttering, just so we get notified of those ones.
Now I’m going to see if there’s any Oh, good, there are. So that is good news. And then what I’m going to do is I’m going to create a filter. Okay, and I am going one second here, Bode decluttering. There we go. And I am going to create my filter. Okay. And then I am going to start the conversation, I want to apply a label. And we’ll go with herro, maybe decluttering case you’re in multiple industries you are, there’s multiple things that you want to search for, I can have it do that. I could even afford it to a specific email.
So let’s say you have an email that you use just for signing up for things online. That could be the email you use for help a reporter out. And then you could have it automatically forward the the write emails to the email address that you have connected to your cell phone. And that way, you’ll get notified immediately of the ones that are a good fit for you and your business. So you can reply to those journalists with your pitch. And that’s going to help you get more free exposure and publicity, just by being proactive.
I’m going to never send to spam, I’m going to mark it as important. categorize it, just primary, make sure I see it, and I’m going to apply to the matching conversations. So I’m going to create this filter. And so we’ll see if that filter is newing anything yet. So I see that it did grab some of those conversations. So I’m going to go into my decluttering folder here. And if these were coming in live, as I got those messages, it would show up in my primary inbox, I would see it, I could even have it forwarded to my cell phone, so I know which one to look at.
So let’s click and see what one of these is. And then we’ll use Jarvis.ai not AI to reply to their pitch. Now I’m not an expert in decluttering. But I figured this would be a fun one to do, because it’s totally different than what I do for a living. So I was referred to cluttering here. That’s right here. So writing about the one thing cluttering experts make their clients get rid of me. So I’m going to copy that. Go to Jarvis AI. And I’ll put that in there. Okay, I’m going to generate ideas and do that. I’m going to write my intro. Snip.
There’s an else that they want me to cover. Okay, I don’t think there’s really anything else there? Here’s the one, change the one thing. Let’s just see what it comes up with. Okay, I think that’s pretty good. We’ll go with compose. See if there’s anything else. Let’s go with that. All right, so I have that. We want to power mode here. And we’re going to do the bio, because they’ll probably want a bio. And I’ll be like, Sally is a professional or colonizer Denizer, with 10 years of experience, helping people declutter their homes.
Okay, I’m just gonna do one out maybe three outputs here just to see if there’s one I like, I don’t want to overwhelm myself. Okay. With this man will return that name. So each month there’s my pitch. not actually going to send this, but what I would do is I would click this here. And then I would paste that in. And then I would hit send, I might put a subject line now saying decluttering expert. Or I might actually grab, the guy would grab this. That’s what I’ve used in the past.
Okay, and then I would hit send. And then if that person wanted to communicate with me or thought it was a good fit, then, you know, they’ll reply, you know, they might want to do an interview or they might want to just use this content as is, so on and so forth. It’s a really cool way to get free publicity that can also be on or offline, so check out help a reporter.com
